Symbol of the Sun: a crowned figure seated between two lions

The Sun among the stars is like(?) the king; the other stars are like its helpers and troops. The Moon is vizier and heir apparent; Mercury is the scribe and steward, Mars the commander of the army and master of the host, Jupiter the judge, Saturn the treasurer, Venus the servants and slave girls.*1 *2

The seven spheres are the seven climes, the signs are the cities, (...) the villages and the settlements.*2

Out of His care and bounty, the Creator placed the Sun in the middle of the seven planets, so that the natures and the things endowed with a nature should not go beyond the bounds of balance.

Were it in the sphere of the fixed stars, the natures would be corrupted by the severity of the cold; were it in the sphere of the Moon, the whole world would burn up and perish from the severity of the heat.

And if it never moved but stood still, the hot places would perish from the intensity of the heat and the cold places from the intensity of the cold.

So that its benefit may reach everything, once a year it inclines to the south and once to the north.

God Most High has said: "And the sun runs to a resting place of its own; that is the decree of the Mighty, the All-Knowing." (Ya Sin 36:38)

The body of the Sun is a hundred and sixty-six times the body of the Earth.*3

The cause of the solar eclipse is this: the Moon comes between the face of the Sun and our [...]. For the Moon's body is dense, and when it comes in front of something it prevents it from being seen.*3
